Modal is a viscose type material, mainly originating from beech wood. It is available in two types, the HWM type (high wet modulus) and the polynosics type. Furthermore, modal distinguishes itself from normal viscose rayon by a slightly different production method. Modal is also closely related to Lyocell or Cupro.

Modal is soft, comfortable and has a good drape. In comparison with regular viscose rayon, it has a better tenacity and a better moisture absorption.
