Braiding (also known as plaiting) refers to the technique of creating a two- or three dimensional structure by interlacing three or more yarns. The yarns do not have to be of the same matieral. Braiding is thus also a method to create composite materials.
The advantage of braided structures are strength as well as flexibility which specially comes in handy for tubular fabrics (like hoses) or surgical sutures.
