Polyvinylidene Chloride PVDC
INTRODUCTION TO PVDC
Polyvinylidene Chloride, or also PVDC, is a thermoplast made by polymerization of vinylidene chloride. It is widely known either thanks to its trade name "Saran" or then because of its thermochromic properties, meaning the colour of PVDC can change at certain temperatures.
PVDC usually is applied as film in food packing due to its low gas permeability in terms of water (vapour) or oxygen. PVDC as a yarn on the other hand typically finds application for filters or shades. For thermochromic yarn types of PVDC, it is often applied in toys and similar.
