Friction texturization is a texturization technique where the yarn goes through friction discs which create a twist that is then immediately fixed by heat. Depending if one friction textured by the HE or Set technique, the twist is then heat fixed by one (HE type) or two heaters (Set type).
HE FRICTION TEXTURED YARN
HE in HE friction textured yarn stands for "high elasticity" as thanks to the single heat setting process, the twist is relatively well kept in shape (thus also often called single heater yarn or stretch textured yarn). Furthermore, the crimp is regularly distributed along the yarn. HE textured yarn is often also called false twist texturizing.
HE textured yarns find thanks to these characteristics often application in sport wear, swim wear as well as stockings as these applications require a high elasticity.

SET FRICTION TEXTURED YARN
Set friction textured yarn is heat set by two heaters after twisting (also often called double heat yarn). Due to this two heating process, elasticity and ductility are reduced for Set textured yarns as in the second heater, the yarn relaxes meaning looses part of the twist again. Accordingly, the yarn is still elastic, less however compared to HE textured yarn.
Set textured yarn finds use in both weaving and knitting with end application (outer) garments.
