Extrusion spinning or melt spinning is a spinning technique where polymer is extruded by a spinneret. Usually, the polymer is fed into the spinning machine in pellet / chips form, melted and then pressed through. Occassionally, the polymer gets produced from the raw materials and then pumped in the machine - a process called direct spinning (as one skips the step where the polymer is fed in chips form into the machine).
After being extruded by the spinneret, the polymer solidifies into yarn-shape. However, at this point of time, the yarn is mostly low oriented and needs to be drawn.
