Polyethylene Furanoate PEF
INTRODUCTION TO POLYETHYLENE FURANOATE
Polyethylene Furanoate PEF is a polymer similar to Polyethylene Terephthalate PET. The difference lies in the production as for PEF, the terephthalic acid used for PET is replaced by plant sugar based furandicarboxylic acid. This results in PEF to be biobased and not dependent from fossil feedstock.
Furthermore, PEF is in no way inferior than PET but even convinces with superior barrier and thermal properties. Polyethylene Furanoate PEF is thus often referred to as the next generation polyester.
