- Rawwhite polyester glow yarns can be used in products which are piece dyed (or even yarn dyed). Disperse dye stuffs at 130° C should be ok.
The glow effect has durability after washing, cleansing and even boiling.
Note: although over dyeing is possible we recommend only to overdye glow yarn in pastel colors – if you dye the glow yarn in dark shades one may no longer see the glow effect!
- Characteristics of glow yarn are same as normal Polyester yarn, which means finishing temperature of Polyester 160 degree Centigrade.
- Glow Yarn withstands over 1000 hours of UV exposure. UV stability is very excellent.
- No problem of using garments containing glow yarn – it is non-toxic and is not hazardous to human beings.
- The luminous effect lasts almost forever. The luminous pigment is put into the yarn and not just onto the surface. Therefore no problem with peeling off.
- The more after glow yarn there is in one place the better and longer the glow effect. Thicker layers of embroidered glow yarn will perform better than just a knitted or woven in stripe. The glow pigments agitate one another.
- The new quality is a core/sheath construction. The glow pigments are in the core layer.
- Q & A
- What is photoluminescence?
Photoluminescence is a special kind of phosphorescence. The energy needed to activate it is supplied by common light sources such as daylight, tungsten filament and luminous lights.
- How does photoluminescent material work?
Photoluminescent materials contain purpose designed inorganic phosphor compounds that are energized in seconds by the ultra violet and blue light wavelength energy that is present in nearly all light sources. This high-energy source is converted into a lower energy source of light. The lower energy light source is yellow-green, the color most readily perceived by the human eye and as specified by safety signs standards. Photoluminescent materials are non-radioactive and non-toxic and provide a strong light source. They are also self-extinguishing, so they carry on working when they are most needed.
- How is photoluminescent material used?
Photoluminescent materials can be used for many safety applications, including:- Life saving equipment identification
- Fire safety products
- Health and safety products
- Low location illumination
- Directional route marking tape
- Is this product toxic or radioactive?
The powder in the yarns and fibers is non toxic and non radioactive. It is safe for general use. But care must be taken when handling it. Wear gloves and wash with water if comes in contact with skin.
